Polly out of Pocket
Interview with Polly out of Pocket — The President, cofounder and CEO of PollyWorld. The Create Mode Comrade is growing up... What's next for her?
Alpha Data:
What has been inspiring you lately?
Polly:
Honestly, currently, Addison Rae. I am so inspired by her as a concept and her entire team — incredible PR, incredible wardrobe, incredible sex appeal — just mwahhhh. Chefs kiss. In the words of Alexa Chung, she is just such an it girl because you can't put your figure on it. Such inexplicable star power, which really attracts me to people. Gabor Maté is also a huge one. Eminem also. For the most part though, it is mainly my beautiful talented friends and women as a whole.
AD:
What do you think is your greatest strength?
PP:
I think my greatest strength is my ability to connect with people and make them feel seen. I hate the word empath and will never ever call myself that. I am just bad at a lot of things in this life but one thing I am good at is perception with zero judgement — being able to read what people need and give them catered advice.

AD:
Favorite 3 songs at the moment?
PP:
Oooooh, this is tough. At the moment? In the Morning by Lil Wayne, Swaggmire by Ruben Slikk and Dream a Dream by Captain Jack (The Euro Shortmix specifically — this is a DDR song so this is a reoccurring phase but I'm back on it heavy right now).
AD:
What do you like/dislike about NYC?
PP:
Another hard one. Let's start positive.
Things I like:
The ability to get your essentials like grabba and lashes at any whim. The variety of food (we'll get back to that). How easy it is to make friends and the incredible friendships I've made. How many different scenes and groups there are and how easy it is to reinvent yourself. Feeling accomplished from doing minimal tasks. Walkability. The fresh feelings of hopes and dreams and upward mobility, even if it's delusional.
What I don't like:
Overgrown highschool behavior. Jobless men / the overall insane imbalance in women's drive and attractiveness level — this is the hot girl capital of the world and a new girl is turning 18 everyday, but the men seem to keep getting older and are always right where you left them. Opportunistic friendships. Scarcity mindset that leads to bad behavior. Getting cat called. The food is sometimes good but the overall quality is cheaply made and not cheap in price. Oh yeah, how could I forget — HOW FUCKING EXPENSIVE IT IS. Fuck landlords. I get we all have a job to do but holy shit. Being impoverished is my #1, actually.
AD:
What's a cliche phrase that resonates with you deeply?
PP:
I love love love a cliche quote. Things are cliche because they are true. People have been going through the same struggles since the beginning of humanity. Some of my favorites? I stole this from Jelly Roll, but "what doesn't get you in the wash will get you in the rinse." I also really like "the longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it is to get back home." My all time favorite is "god is a comedian performing for an audience too afraid to laugh." I love that one. I don't remember where I heard it but truly everything is a sick joke — I don't believe in coincidences.
AD:
What would you choose to be your last meal?
PP:
I've been dying for someone to give me the last meal question because I've never given it thought. First, we're gonna go an iced latte with oat milk and an extra shot and a splash of vanilla syrup. I also love regular milk too, I just like oat milk in coffee even though it apparently spikes your blood sugar worse than a Coca Cola? I also don't know if I would want to be caffeinated if I was about to die, but just for pleasure.
A toasted buttery croissant to pair.
Then we're doing full omakase or just unlimited sashimi platter — lots of uni. Wagyu. I love those instagrams of the Wagyu in wonder bread. I've never had it but I imagine it tastes like what it looks like, so that. Also the raw orange egg yolk with Wagyu over the rice. Perhaps even the flight of those with gradient of yellow yolks — also love those Instagram posts.
Hot, buttery pancakes should also be at this table.
A nice shrimp Alfredo and a rare, almost bloody Whole Foods or butcher steak.
To wash it all down, a Ben and Jerry's pint, probably New York Super Fudge Crunch, because I like fishing for the white chocolate chunks so it's an activity and a food. Also nostalgia's sake.
Diet Coke present as well.
Banana cream pie or Magnolia's Bread Pudding for dessert.
AD:
Any advice for your younger self?
PP:
So much advice for my younger self but I'll keep it brief — stay true to yourself, but stay on the straightened arrow. Don't get lost in the sauce. Focus on yourself more. Everything works out and all the answers are within you. Be strong.
AD:
Favorite color and why?
PP:
Purple — nowadays I'd say it's pink, but purple historically has been my favorite. Besides pink, it is the cutest, but it also starts with P, and Plums were my favorite fruit which also starts with P and are also purple, so this revelation I made at 6 years old always made purple special to me. I also like its darkness — it's like pink's badass older cousin.
AD:
Do you have a celebrity crush? If so, why that person?
PP:
Adam Driver. I don't know why — I loved Adam in GIRLS even though he seems awful to date. Maybe it's that his face is so interesting to look at, but I more so think it's his dedication to the craft. I love when actors go balls to the wall with a role — like when Christian Bale gained and lost a shit ton of weight.
AD:
Do you journal?
PP:
Yes. For being a writer, I should more, but yes.
AD:
Do you believe that dreams have meaning?
PP:
Yes and no. When we dream we are closer to the source because the veil is thinner, so to speak, but I think most dreams are just blended visuals and anxieties pulled from our subconscious and unconscious. I have had a visitation dream from a friend who passed — it was too intense to not mean something. I could tell it was external. So sometimes, very rarely, maybe more often if you lean towards the clairvoyant side, I do think spiritual messages can come through.
AD:
Are you a believer of zodiac/astrology? Follow up — what's your sign and how has it impacted you?
PP:
Yes, I definitely do believe in Zodiacs — I'm not the most intense about it, but it just seems to reign true in my life. For example, I am a Taurus Sun, Taurus rising and Cancer moon (cursed). We can all apply our lives to very general "predictions" because humans more or less go through the same stuff, but sometimes there is just a little too much of a coincidence.
The reason I started truly believing in signs is because I noticed the signs I was meant to not get along with weren't even in my life — meaning, I never even got close enough to them to even know their zodiac. However, there are hundreds of factors that make someone the way they are, such as environment, childhood, trauma, culture, etc., so I don't consider it a be all end all. I have been best friends with signs I shouldn't get along with. I will say, however, I am no longer friends with any of those people.
AD:
If you could time travel, would you go to the future or the past (and why)?
PP:
Time travel? Jesus Christ. I don't even know. I can barely handle current reality. Every era seems like it sucked in its own way. I was also raised by a conspiracy theorist so I'm an Apocalypse baby, so nothing of the future. Maybe to be a teen in 2008 or something.
AD:
Is there anything else you want people to know about you?
PP:
No. I think I've aired myself out enough (for right now) over the years. I will forever be an over sharer, but for now I'm working on being less accessible.
